Will Phillips, Sustainability Director, has served as the manager of Under Armour Green for two years. Alongside Under Armour co-founders Scott Plank and Kip Fulks, Will began the program in 2007. Phillips has worked to build green into the DNA of Under Armour, Inc. and has driven the launch of UA GREEN brand message and product collection. Under Armour’s Catalyst collection – performance gear made from recycled plastic bottles – debuted at the 2009 Under Armour Baltimore Marathon and landed in retail stores in December 2009. Energy and greenhouse gas reduction programs, waste minimization efforts, green building projects, general corporate green strategy and employee engagement initiatives all fall under Will’s purview. Through these various UA GREEN initiatives, Under Armour is finding business value.
Will has worked with Outdoor Industry Association’s Eco Working Group, the American Apparel and Footwear Association’s Environmental Committee, and the University of Delaware’s Sustainable Apparel Initiatives to support industry movement toward sustainable practices. Additionally, Will serves on the Board of Directors for the US Green Building Council’s Maryland Chapter and is the Chair of USGBC-MD’s Young Professionals group.
A former collegiate All-American lacrosse player, Will now serves on the Board of Directors of the Charm City Youth Lacrosse League, an effort to bring the sport to low-income Baltimore neighborhoods. Phillips holds a Bachelor’s degree in economics and sociology from the University of Pennsylvania.
