Sarah Zaleski, Sustainability Coordinator, City of Baltimore

Sarah Zaleski, Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Baltimore, has been announced as a content team member and speaker for the Mid-Atlantic Business-to-Business Green Forum.  She has a passion for the environment and is making a difference every step of the way.  A native of Annapolis, Ms. Zaleski came to Baltimore after receiving her Masters in Environmental Management and Masters in Public Policy from Duke University.

Prior to joining Baltimore’s Sustainability Team, Ms. Zaleski worked on sustainability, energy, and climate policy at all jurisdictional levels.  At the state level, she designed and marketed energy demand side management programs for government and utility sponsored initiatives.  On the federal front, she represented the Pew Center on Global Climate Change on Capitol Hill.  Internationally, she assessed implications of expanding global biofuel markets while with the United Nations.  In the private sector, Ms. Zaleski also conducted sustainability consulting for owners and operators of commercial real estate portfolios.

As the current Sustainability Coordinator of Baltimore City, Ms. Zaleski manages many projects including the Climate Action Plan and the newly-released Baltimore Sustainability Plan.  The team at the Baltimore Office of Sustainability put their blood, sweat and tears into the new Sustainability Plan to create a document to guide Baltimore toward a greener future. Baltimore is currently the tenth greenest city in America and is always striving to improve the quality of life for members of the Baltimore community.

The Baltimore Sustainability Plan will serve as a roadmap to guide Baltimore in greener decisions. The Plan focuses on seven priority areas that the people of Baltimore voiced were most important to their lives.  These areas include cleanliness, pollution prevention, resource conservation, greening, transportation, education and awareness, and a green economy.  The plan articulates 29 goals and over 130 strategies to aid the accomplishment of these goals.  This comprehensive plan is the result of the dedication of Baltimore city’s Sustainability Team and their efforts with the community.

We are glad to have Ms. Zaleski as a part of the Mid-Atlantic Business-to-Business Green Forum as her expertise greatly adds to the level of environmental knowledge on our team.  Ms. Zaleski will be speaking on the topic of energy policy and how it affects Baltimore, as well as moderating two sessions at the B2B Forum.  For more information on the Baltimore Sustainability Plan, please visit www.baltimoresustainability.org.
